Candle safety

  1. Place on a surface suitable for collecting wax
  2. Trim wick to 5mm before lighting
    1. (Trimming the wick ensures you’ll get a cleaner and safer burn. By trimming the wick, you keep the flame under control and prevent uneven burning and sooting. We recommend trimming the wick after the first five minutes of burning to ensure a steady burn, after this please trim the wick every hour. If the flame becomes larger than 2inches then extinguish the flame and trim the wick, this will solve the issue).
  3. Burn candle within sight
  4. Keep away from drafts and vibrations
  5. Keep out of reach of children and pets
  6. Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire
  7. Only burn the candle on a level, fire resistant surface
  8. Do not burn the candle for more than 1 hour at a time
  9. Never leave your candle in direct sunlight as the sun rays can damage the appearance of the candle causing frosting and blooming

Candle care

The burn times will vary on each candle dependent on the candle size and shape but the integrity of the candle shape will remain intact if burnt for short periods of time not allowing the wax to melt to the edges of the candle on the first burn.  Wax has a memory and if the wax pool is at least 3mm from the edge of the candle and the flame is extinguished at this point, on the next burn it is unlikely to go beyond that point.   No decorative candle should be burnt for more than an hour at a time. This ensures the candle does not over heat which could potentially mean it could crack.  If the flame of the candle is more than 2 inches high extinguish and cut the wick once cooled to just under 5mm. This will also extend your burn time.

Decorative candles should always be place on a heat resistant candle tray. This will protect the surface of any of your furniture from wax and is another safety element to using candles effectively.

We use only natural wax which is either soy, coconut & predominantly olive wax. These waxes are soft and can leave a mark on the surface you are using it on. Because the wax is natural you can use warm soapy water to remove any excess wax that has left its mark. This is another reason a candle tray is a good product to buy to use your decorative candles on.
